Amey, we are so excited to be co-hosting this workshop with you.  For our readers who may not be familiar with your work, can you tell us about your business?

The Perfect Party Co. is a complete in-house, event styling + planning + floristry + hire company, dedicated to creating unique environments for personalised and intimate shared experiences.

Why did you decide to add Floral Design as a service to your business?

Floristry was always a key element of The Perfect Party Co. because for 9 out of 10 events it is the finishing element, the piece that brings it all together, connects the concept and completes the space. It was important for me to keep that in-house to ensure it was spot on each time, especially given how volatile supply can be of florals, keeping it in-house enabled me to modify other elements to match the floral should it have not gone to plan.

What do you love most about Floral Design?

I love how floral design can transform a concept, the same ingredients can make 4 different recipes, it’s just the combination and method of each that makes it something different and that’s the power of floral design within a styling concept.

How important is it as stylists that we understand the basics of Floral Design?

I feel it’s important for stylists to understand as much as they can about all elements of an event, and floristry is no different. It doesn’t mean you need to know the scientific name for each of the flowers or the season of availability, you just need to understand the basics, to have the ability to pull it together yourself or to have the ability to confidently convey to another florist what you are envisaging.

What do you hope someone attending the workshop gains from the experience?

Confidence. Confidence that you don’t have to be a formally qualified florist to work with flowers, there will always be those times when you need to pull in the professionals and you may choose to always pull in the professionals, but you will walk away from this workshop at least with an understanding of what your florist is working with and the knowledge to convey your concepts and execute the basics.

What importance do you believe today's client puts on flowers for their wedding?

Florals have become such an important component of modern weddings. Social media is sharing the possibilities of floral design more freely than ever before and technology and transport are broadening the seasons of floral availability and ranges. Gone are the days of grandma’s friend doing your wedding flowers; now it’s a case of go big or go home.
